Featured Project: Forgiveness Course Series
Project: Forgiveness Course
Client: Un/Do
My Role: Instructional Designer, eLearning Developer
Time in Development: 1 month
Tools Used in Development: Lectora, with some elements made in Canva
Intended Audience: Middle and high school students
Context: This is part of a series of training on forgiveness. This course was designed using Merrill's First Principles of Instruction and the ADDIE model.
Executive Summary: Students require skills to navigate trauma, process difficult emotions, and confront the daily challenges posed by contemporary society, especially in the wake of educational disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. These vital skills are largely absent from the curriculum in many school systems.
Un/Do aims to remove barriers by offering a free, online program through public education that teaches over 30 skills. The learners will independently complete these lessons at school. The program seeks to support their mental and emotional growth. In this lesson, they will learn to forgive someone.
Challenge: Many members of the target audience struggle to express emotions and forgive others in a healthy way. I chose this topic from their list of targeted skills because it is a difficult skill to master, yet so important to developing relationships. The learners will work to let go of resentment and move forward. In learning how to forgive others, they can also learn how to forgive themselves.
Solution: The proposed solution is an eLearning course that incorporates several practice scenarios and the opportunity to create a forgiveness plan. The participants may complete a student journal as they follow along with the lesson and download a job aid they can refer to afterward. This topic is very personal and thus their student journal responses will not be shared with the teachers. After completing the eLearning lesson, they will attend an in-person Instructor-Led Training (ILT). This hybrid solution was chosen because it will allow the learners to reflect on their experiences as they move independently through the eLearning course and then practice with others during the ILT, where they will have discussions and create and perform roleplay scenarios. The ILT facilitator will create a safe space for them to learn and practice.
Results: While the program is still being developed, Un/Do is hoping to share it with the 108 public middle and high schools in Denver, reaching as many as 46,980 students. They will complete a survey about their experience after both the eLearning and the ILT, and once more a month after completing the series (3 surveys total per participant). The results of the surveys will be used to improve the program.

Project: Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) Training for Supervisors (Note: this is Ontario's legislation for workplace health and safety)
Client: Open World Learning (OWL)
My Role: Instructional Designer, eLearning Developer, Editor
Time in Development: 4 months (about 10 hours a week)
Tools Used in Development: Articulate Rise, Canva, MicMonster, Loom (used to create screen recordings of the course)
Intended Audience: I worked with OWL to update their OHSA training using Articulate Rise. There was an existing OHSA course on the Canadian government website, but it was outdated and lacked interactivity and engaging elements. We used that course as a starting point to create a script, which we then went through to eliminate duplicated text and add clarifying explanations where necessary. I worked with another eLearning Developer to create the 5 modules over the course of about 4 months (about 10 hours a week). OWL was going through a rebrand then, so we ensured that this course met their new branding requirements. After the course was completed, I went through the whole project several times to check for visual consistency and to add voice-over recordings for every lesson using MicMonster for accessibility purposes. OWL then adapted the finished supervisor course into a version intended for workers.
Note: I am not able to share the course directly, but I have permission to share screen recordings (see below).
